Spring break in Southwest Florida on a budget is completely doable — and honestly, some of the best experiences here don’t cost much at all.

Living in the area and exploring it with my family has taught me that you don’t need expensive theme parks or luxury resorts to enjoy a memorable spring break. Some of our favorite days have been spent kayaking through mangrove tunnels, watching dolphins at sunset, exploring nature preserves, or simply letting the kids run wild at a splash pad.

Southwest Florida is packed with beautiful parks, wildlife preserves, beaches, kid-friendly museums, and outdoor adventures, many of which are free or very affordable.

If you're planning a spring break trip or just looking for fun things to do locally with the kids, here are 35 budget-friendly spring break activities across Fort Myers, Naples, Bonita Springs, and nearby areas.

Nature & Outdoor Adventures

Kayaking in Big Hickory Island – Bonita Springs

If you want to experience the real Florida, kayaking Big Hickory Island is one of the best adventures you can have.

Paddling through the mangrove tunnels feels like entering another world. Dolphins often swim nearby, birds fly overhead, and if you're lucky you might even spot manatees.

We did this trip as a family and it was one of the most memorable outdoor experiences we’ve had in Southwest Florida.

Kayak rentals are available nearby and are relatively inexpensive compared to guided tours but if you have never kayak in the area, I highly recommend a guided tour. We used Viator to book our experience and absolutely loved it.

Shark Valley is one of the most fascinating places in South Florida.

The 15-mile loop road takes you deep into the Everglades where wildlife sightings are almost guaranteed. Alligators sunbathe along the trail, birds gather in the wetlands, and the observation tower offers incredible views of the vast Everglades landscape.

You can:

  • Bike the loop

  • Walk part of the trail

  • Take the tram tour

It’s a truly unique Florida experience.

Often called the Amazon of North America, Fakahatchee Strand is one of the wildest places in Florida.
