Scenic Beauty

Centennial Park is a picturesque green space that offers a respite from the urban hustle and bustle. It boasts a serene lake, lush greenery, and stunning views of the Caloosahatchee River.

This beautiful setting makes it an ideal place for kids to connect with nature and provides an opportunity to teach them about the environment.

Playground Extravaganza

One of the main attractions for families is the expansive playground at Centennial Park. Featuring a variety of swings, slides, climbing structures, kids of all ages can burn off energy while parents relax nearby.

The brand new playground was inaugurated after Hurricane Ian hit and it has been a huge hit with kids and parents.

The playground is meticulously maintained, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for the little ones.

Educational Opportunities

Beyond the playground, Centennial Park offers several educational experiences for children. The park often hosts special events, like nature walks, birdwatching tours, and science workshops.

These events provide valuable learning opportunities while still being incredibly entertaining.

Public Art and Sculptures

A unique feature of Centennial Park is its commitment to art and culture. The park is dotted with striking sculptures and art installations, igniting children's imaginations and sparking conversations about creativity. Exploring these artistic elements can be both fun and educational.

Bird Watching

The park is home to a diverse range of bird species. Bring a pair of binoculars and introduce your kids to the fascinating world of bird watching. The serene environment allows for optimal bird watching conditions, and your children will have a blast trying to spot different species.

Watch the Sunset

For anyone who loves to watch a beautiful sunset, Centennial Park offers the opportunity to see one of the most beautiful sunsets on the Caloosahatchee river.

Remember to charge up your phones or camera, bring the tripod, and watch the river engulf the sun. It's one of the most spectacular sight to see and best of it all, it's all free.

Farmer's Market

If you enjoy fresh fruits and veggies and love to support local businesses, the Fort Myers River District Farmer's market is the place to be every Thursday, from 9am to 1 pm.

Historical site

Fort Myers is filled with history and so much of it is told right on the grounds of the park. So when you walk around, take the time to stop by the plaques and monuments and you may be surprised with what you learn about the town.

Watch the boats cruising by

The Caloosahatchee river is the commute for many boats coming in and out of the waters of the Gulf of Mexico so bring a snack or two, sit near the water and watch the boats passing by for a peaceful evening. You might even spot a manatee or two.

Things to keep in mind before you visit Downtown Fort Myers Centennial Park

Parking

Parking is not free. It used to be but ever since the park was remodeled, the city has added a parking fee which must be paid via the app, so make sure you bring your cell phones, otherwise you may receive a fine for non payment.

Bring Water

Although there is a water fountain at the park that is provided by the city, I'd recommend to bring your own water bottle for two reasons:

1 - You know the quality of the water you brought.

2 - You can keep the kids hydrated without having to leave the playground area and don't have to make your way to the restroom facilities where water fountains are located.

Events

Be mindful of events when planning your trip especially if you are looking for a quiet, calming day at the park as that may not happen if an event is happening.

Centennial Park in Downtown Fort Myers is the perfect destination for parents seeking a blend of education and entertainment for their kids.

From its beautiful setting and playgrounds to its art installations and cultural events, this urban oasis offers a diverse range of experiences that can be both fun and educational.

So, the next time you're in Fort Myers with your family, make sure to visit Centennial Park and create lasting memories with your kids in this delightful family paradise.

I also got my cranberry hibiscus at Echo in Ft. Myers over 13 years ago and I love that they still pop up in my yard. I've been trying to find the exact macros this plant provides to your diet but all I ever come up with is info on either the tea or the flowers. I use the leaves in my salads daily when its growing fresh in my yard. I do prefer the smaller leaves for salad. Any additional info you may have is appreciated!
