Camping at Koreshan State Park (Estero, FL): What to Know Before You Go

If you’re planning on camping at Koreshan State Park, you’re choosing one of the most convenient and unique state parks in Southwest Florida. Located in Estero, this park combines shaded campsites, historic charm, and easy access to nearby beaches, shopping, and dining.
Koreshan State Park is a great option for both RV campers and tent campers who want a relaxed camping experience without being too far from modern conveniences. We chose this park as our very first RV camping trip due to how conveniently located it is and because it is close to our Fort Myers home.
We had visited the Koreshan State Park several times before for leisure, nature trailing and to shop at their farmer's market but never to camp, so this guide covers everything you need to know before you go — from campground details and amenities to what to pack and when to visit directly from a local.
Where Is Koreshan State Park Located?
Koreshan State Park sits just off U.S. 41 (Tamiami Trail) in Estero, Florida. One of the biggest perks of camping here is its central location.
You’re close to grocery stores, restaurants, and main roadways, while still enjoying a peaceful park setting surrounded by trees and historic structures.
Because of its location, this park works especially well as a base camp for exploring more of Southwest Florida. Coconut Point Shops is down the street and if you feel like a beach day, Lover's Key State Park is about 30 minutes away.

➡️ If you’re planning a broader trip, this campground fits perfectly into a larger Florida travel itinerary, which you can explore in my Florida travel guides.
Camping at Koreshan State Park: Campground Overview
Campsites & Hookups
The campground at Koreshan State Park offers:
Campsites suitable for RVs and tents
Electric and water hookups (no sewer hookups at sites)
A dump station available within the campground
Shaded sites that help with Florida heat
While Koreshan State Park does not offer sewer hookups, the campground is well-maintained and easy to navigate, making it a popular choice for both short stays and longer visits.
Reservations
Camping reservations should be made well in advance, especially during peak season from winter through early spring. This is one of the most in-demand campgrounds in Southwest Florida due to its location and accessibility.
Pro tip: Winter sites book quickly, so plan ahead. Spring and summers are less crowded but do expect more mosquitos.
What Makes Koreshan State Park a Great Place to Camp
Camping at Koreshan State Park feels different from many other Florida campgrounds because of its blend of history, nature, and convenience.
Historic Setting
The park preserves the historic Koreshan Unity settlement, which includes:
Restored historic buildings
Shaded walking paths
Scenic views along the Estero River

You can explore much of the historic area directly from the campground without needing to drive.
Things to Do While Camping
Campers can enjoy:
Walking trails
The trail near the river is best for wildlife viewing. We saw several wild bunnies during our walk as well as snakes.

Kayaking and canoeing on the Estero River
Rentals are NOT available, bring your own or rent them from a local kayak company.
Wildlife viewing (especially birds)
The park is home to over 100 bird species, including swallow-tailed kites, bald eagles, bobwhites, belted kingfishers as well as gators, rabbits, deers and more.

Picnic areas and open green spaces Perfect for enjoying a picnic, reading a book or just sitting back and watching nature.

Photoshoots
Look for the white bridge for a beautiful vintage style photo or for a macabre aesthetic, there is a near primitive bridge near the kayak launch. I personally had a Halloween photoshoot done here and it turned out awesome.
Fishing
Don't forget you need a Florida Fishing License if you are older than 18 years old.
Playground Large playground and playing area for the kids which are near grills, perfect for grilling and still keeping an eye out for the kids.
Explore the settlement sites Learn about the Koreshan Community that lived here in the 1890's. Discover how they congregated, raised their families and lived together as a community.

This makes Koreshan a great option for campers who enjoy low-key outdoor activities rather than rugged or remote camping.
Best Time of Year for Camping at Koreshan State Park
The best time for camping at Koreshan State Park is between November and April, when temperatures are cooler and humidity is lower. This is peak camping season in Southwest Florida, so campsites are in high demand.
Camping during the summer months is possible, but you should be prepared for:
High heat and humidity
Afternoon thunderstorms
More bugs
The tradeoff is fewer crowds and easier availability.
