Lee County Holiday Guide 2026: Christmas Events, Lights & Local Traditions

16 min read

Christmas in Southwest Florida has its own personality. We decorate palm trees, watch boats parade across the water, and sometimes spend a December afternoon at the beach before heading out to see holiday lights.

As a Fort Myers-area mom of four, I like having options: a special night we plan ahead for, a quick Santa visit, something affordable, and an outing that works when everyone has different energy levels. A full calendar is useful, but knowing what actually fits your family is even better.

This Lee County holiday guide brings together published 2026 events in Fort Myers, Cape Coral, Bonita Springs, Fort Myers Beach, Sanibel, Captiva, Pine Island and Matlacha. It also includes smaller community finds and practical ways to turn one event into an easy evening.

Updated October 6, 2026. All event times are Eastern. Check the organizer’s current schedule before heading out.

For our personal traditions and more relaxed holiday ideas, see my Fort Myers holiday activities guide.

Where to start: choose your kind of holiday outing

Your plan

My starting point

Planning tip

A classic lights night

Edison & Ford Holiday Nights

Make it the main evening outing; check the Monday resident offer

An outdoor family celebration

Cape Coral Holiday Festival of Lights

Choose your parking plan before arrival

A Florida-style Christmas

Cape Coral Boat-a-Long or island Luminary celebrations

Bring a layer for waterfront evenings

A smaller local tradition

Pine Island and Matlacha community listings

Confirm hours and public access directly

A short outing with little kids

Library Santa or craft programs

Look at age limits and entry procedures first

A holiday date or girls’ night

Theater, holiday music or a dinner train

Decide your budget before choosing tickets

Something after Christmas

Holiday Nights or early-January art events

Many one-day celebrations will already be over

My approach: pick one main activity and one optional stop nearby. A treat and a short walk can be plenty after a big event, especially with younger children.

Christmas lights and holiday events in Fort Myers

Holiday Nights turns the historic estate grounds into an evening of seasonal lights and decorations.

Choose a self-guided visit if you want flexibility, especially when children are setting the pace.

The current chamber listing includes a $5 Monday-evening discount on adult admission for Lee County residents. Bring proof of residency and buy the discounted ticket in person for that evening. Ticket sales are listed to begin November 1.

Best for: Historic-home fans and a flexible downtown evening

Holiday House offers decorated historic homes, while the wider downtown celebration includes literacy-themed storefronts and student art. The organizer lists free entry for children under 5 and veterans with identification; check which evenings the homes are open.

The Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center display is listed for November 27–December 25. Plan a short downtown walk and add a meal or dessert if that suits your budget.

Smaller find: Candy Cane Lane has storytime on December 12 at 3 p.m., followed by free Santa visits from 3:30–5:30 p.m. Bringing a new or gently used children’s book supports the associated book drive.

Fort Myers Festival of Trees

Location: Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center, 2301 First Street

Admission: $2; under 5 free; free entry with a new toy donation

Best for: An affordable seasonal stop

Browse trees decorated by local businesses in this fundraiser for Goodwill Southwest Florida and the art center. December 2 is the preview party, rather than an ordinary public viewing day.

Associated celebrations include the Giant Wreath Lighting on December 4, 6–10 p.m., and Santa’s Block Party on December 5, 10 a.m.–2 p.m. Check fees for individual activities.

Holiday Lights at Calusa Nature Center & Planetarium

Dates: Opening December 4; additional dates available on the booking page

Time: 6–9 p.m. for the listed opening event

Location: 3450 Ortiz Avenue, Fort Myers

Admission: Listed at $13 adults and $7 children, plus ticket fees

Best for: Families and couples who like an outdoor lights walk

Calusa’s event follows an illuminated one-third-mile trail, with a fire, warm drinks and roasted marshmallows afterward. The current listing also shows December 5, 6 and 11; choose your actual visit date on the booking page.

Comfortable shoes make sense for a trail outing. Ask the venue about the route if you need stroller or mobility-access information. Planetarium programming should be checked separately; do not assume it is included in this ticket.

Gulf Coast Town Center Tree Lighting Ceremony

Dates: November 28, 2026

Times: 5–8 p.m.

Best for: Families with younger children and Thanksgiving-weekend festivities

Celebrate the season with a stroll through Candy Cane Lane, holiday entertainment, festive vendors, letters to Santa, and appearances by Anna and Elsa.

A Rockin’ Blue Christmas at Gulf Coast Town Center

A Rockin’ Blue Christmas brings holiday favorites and musical tributes to performers including Elvis Presley and Bing Crosby to the outdoor courtyard. Make it an easy holiday evening with dinner nearby before settling in for the family-friendly concert.

Times: 5–7 p.m.

Location: Bell Tower, 13499 South Cleveland Avenue, Fort Myers

Admission: Check the organizer for admission details; complimentary popcorn and hot chocolate while supplies last

Best for: Families looking for a relaxed outdoor movie night

Bring blankets or lawn chairs for an outdoor screening of Toy Story during Bell Tower’s November Family Fun Night. Pick up dinner from one of the center’s restaurants and enjoy it on the lawn before the movie.

Complimentary popcorn and hot chocolate add a cozy touch while supplies last.

Deck the Tower: Bell Tower Tree Lighting Celebration

Holiday characters, snow effects, circus and hula-hoop entertainment, and a festive finale round out the evening. Arrive early if you want to include shopping or dinner.

Spend the day exploring the car and truck show, arts and crafts, children’s activities and community performances, or arrive later for the evening festivities. Steel drums and tropical dancers perform from 5–5:45 p.m., followed by the holiday parade, tree lighting and Santa selfie opportunities. Choose the portion of the day that works best for your family.

Cape Coral holiday events and boat parades

Holiday Nights on the Lawn

Dates: November 27–28, 2026

Time: 4–8 p.m.

Location: Cape Coral City Hall, 1015 Cultural Park Boulevard

Admission: Check the organizer for fees and activity charges

Best for: Families looking for Thanksgiving-weekend festivities

The city’s program includes tree and menorah lighting, inflatables, food trucks, skating, a trackless train, vendors, Santa and a movie each evening. A drone show is scheduled for Saturday night.

If the drone show is the reason you are going, check its exact start time closer to the event.

Bring something comfortable to sit on if you plan to stay for a movie.

Holiday Festival of Lights

Date: December 5, 2026

Time: 4–10 p.m.

Location: Cape Coral Parkway in downtown Cape Coral

Best for: Families, local performances and a festive community evening

This chamber-organized celebration brings together holiday entertainment, vendors, a tree lighting and Santa. Free Santa photos are part of the published program.

Make this your main evening plan. With a group, choose a meeting point before everyone starts browsing. Food, purchases and parking can add to your outing cost even when particular activities are free.

Holiday Boat-a-Long

Date: December 19, 2026

Time: 4–9 p.m.

Location: Four Freedoms Park and the Bimini Basin

Admission: Free event; purchases extra

Best for: Families and a waterfront Christmas evening

Decorated boats, Santa, entertainment, crafts and an outdoor movie make Boat-a-Long a particularly Florida way to celebrate. Food trucks are also part of the city’s program.

Bring chairs or a blanket, and arrive with time to settle in. The event window is not the exact parade departure time, so check the final schedule if you only want to watch the boats.

Reindeer Run and family walk

Date: December 12, 2026

Event window: 4–7 p.m.

Location: Coral Oaks Golf Course, 1800 NW 28th Avenue

Admission: Registration required; tiered fees

Best for: Active families and friends

The 5K starts at 5 p.m.; the 1.5-mile family run/walk starts at 6 p.m. You can walk rather than run, and the organizer encourages festive clothing.

For an easy family choice, start with the shorter route and check the registration total for everyone attending. The event includes Rudolph photo opportunities and a Santa’s Workshop area.

Sanibel and Captiva holiday celebrations

Sanibel Luminary Holiday Stroll

Date: December 4, 2026

Time: 5:30–9 p.m.

Admission: Free event; travel, shopping and meals extra

Best for: Families, couples and an island holiday evening

Sanibel’s Luminary celebration brings together local businesses, music, Santa visits, photos and a live nativity. It is a lovely candidate for an island-focused night rather than a rushed stop between mainland events.

Choose the part of the island you want to explore, then allow time for travel and parking. Decide in advance whether dinner is part of your plan or whether you want a shorter outing.

Captiva Luminary celebration

Date: December 5, 2026

Time: Check Captiva’s current event details

Captiva celebrates on the following evening. Check its island-specific program for hours and participating businesses.

Holiday Bonanza Arts & Crafts Fair

Dates: November 14, noon–5 p.m., and November 15, 9 a.m.–2 p.m.

Location: Sanibel Community House

Best for: Early gift shopping and local handmade work

The two-day fair features handmade holiday gifts and local makers. It is a useful November option if you prefer spreading your outings across the season instead of filling every December weekend.

Bonita Springs holiday activities

Kris Kringle Village

Dates: December 12–13, 2026

Time: 10 a.m.–8 p.m. on the city’s approved-events calendar

Location: Liles Hotel area, downtown Bonita Springs

Admission: Check the event’s current program

Kris Kringle Village is one to consider for a downtown Bonita holiday outing. Confirm the schedule before choosing a morning visit or an evening plan; a permitted event window does not mean every activity runs all day.

The city also lists Stardust Memories Big Band on December 8, 7–9 p.m., and the Bonita Springs Concert Band on December 13, 6–8 p.m., at Riverside Park. These are seasonal music options; check their repertoire and admission details.

Holiday in the Park and the Holiday Stroll

The art festival at Riverside Park on January 9–10, 2027, 10 a.m.–5 p.m. It makes a useful winter outing after the Christmas celebrations end.

Fort Myers Beach Christmas events

Fort Myers Beach Christmas Boat Parade

Date: December 5, 2026

Best for: A coastal holiday evening

The Christmas Boat Parade is scheduled for December 5.

Before booking a restaurant specifically for a parade view, ask whether its location faces the confirmed 2026 route. Give yourself enough travel time to enjoy the evening without rushing.

Christmas Tree Festival at Margaritaville

Dates: December 11–12, 2026

Location: Margaritaville Beach Resort, 251 Crescent Street

Admission: Free public attendance; an optional limited VIP ticket is listed

Best for: Decorated trees, local giving and a beach-town outing

The Fort Myers Beach Woman’s Club hosts a festival of decorated trees and wreaths benefiting participating area nonprofits.

For an overnight visit, my Fort Myers Beach places-to-stay guide can help you compare a beach base with a mainland stay.

Check Barbara B. Mann’s calendar, Broadway Palm’s season brochure, Gulf Coast Symphony, and Fort Myers Philharmonic for current tickets. The two Nutcracker listings are different productions.

For a date night, choose the show first, then plan food around its start time. For a family evening, consider the youngest child’s attention span as well as everyone’s ticket price. The Hallmark parody is a candidate for an adult night; check the show’s content guidance before taking children.

A Christmas Carol Show at the Broadway Palm Theater

Santa’s Dolphin & Wildlife Cruise

Date: December 24, 2026

Listed prices: $79 adults and $59 children

Departures: Fort Myers, Sanibel and Fort Myers Beach options

Adventures in Paradise offers a Christmas Eve cruise with Santa and a coastal setting. This is a splurge to price for the whole family before booking.

The published departures include Port Sanibel Marina at 9, 9:30 and 10:45 a.m.; Sanibel Marina at 9:45 a.m.; and Snug Harbor Marina at 10:30 a.m. Confirm the departure you select, age-based pricing and any fees. Reservations are required.

Holiday dinner train

The Murder Mystery Dinner Train lists Thanksgiving on November 26, Christmas-week departures on December 21–22, a Christmas Eve departure on December 24, and a New Year’s Eve gala on December 31.

Holiday specials currently list $129 before taxes and gratuities; the New Year’s gala lists $169.

Check the exact show, departure time, age suitability and total cost before choosing it for a family or adults’ evening.

Free and inexpensive holiday ideas near Fort Myers

A holiday outing does not need six attraction tickets. My shortlist would start with the free downtown displays, a published Santa visit, an age-appropriate library activity or Cape Coral’s free Boat-a-Long.

Festival of Trees is another inexpensive starting point. Food, transportation, parking and optional purchases still matter, so decide what you are comfortable spending before leaving.

For a simple activity between events, bring your own cocoa for a sunset outing, make a family photo list, or look for festive decorations during an ordinary walk. These are ideas you can create yourself, rather than organized events with guaranteed displays.

My free Florida Christmas scavenger hunt can give the kids something to look for during a lights outing. Check the individual venue’s rules before bringing food or setting up photo equipment.

Best for: Families seeking a simple Santa visit and photos on their own phone or camera

Enjoy storytime followed by a free visit with Santa at downtown Fort Myers’ decorated Candy Cane Lane pocket park.

Bring your phone or camera to capture a holiday picture, plus a new or gently used children’s book if you would like to support the Believe N’ Books collection.

Easy holiday outing plans by area

A downtown Fort Myers lights evening

Choose Holiday House on an open evening or Festival of Trees during public viewing. Add a short storefront stroll and an optional treat.

If you want to do Edison & Ford thoroughly, give it a separate night rather than trying to squeeze in every lights attraction.

Lighted Palm trees at the Edison Ford Winter Estates

A Cape Coral waterfront evening

Make Boat-a-Long your December 19 main event. Pack seating, water and a light layer, then decide whether you want to stay for the movie.

A Sanibel holiday night

Plan December 4 around Luminary, with one chosen dining or shopping area. Give yourself travel time and avoid committing to another mainland celebration that night.

Captiva’s celebration can be its own December 5 outing.

A Bonita Springs holiday day

Choose Kris Kringle Village and add a nearby meal at SugarShack Downtown Bonita Springs. They usually have live music and it is very family friendly.

Sugarshack Downtown Bonita Springs outside patio

A smaller island outing

Choose a Pine Island event, then add a local shopping or food stop that is open that day. .

A special adults’ night

Choose a theater performance, holiday concert or dinner train, and keep the rest of the evening simple. For outfit ideas, see my Christmas outfits for Florida guide.

What is happening after Christmas and around New Year’s?

Edison & Ford Holiday Nights happens until January 3. Fort Myers Beach fireworks will be happening as usual on December 31st, make sure you arrive well before and plan ahead for parking.

The Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center December 31 rooftop event starts at 9 p.m.–1 a.m. Purchase tickets in advance and Check the art center’s event calendar.

For daytime plans after the holiday, consider the January 9–10 Bonita Springs art festival, a beach outing or a park visit.

My Lovers Key guide is useful when you want to add an outdoor day.

Returning traditions

  • Lakes Park Holiday Express

  • Cape Christian Christmas Village

  • Bass Pro Shops Santa’s Wonderland, Coconut Point and Miromar holiday programs:

  • Estero, Lehigh Acres and North Fort Myers recreation programs

  • Northwest Cape boat parade, farm Christmas markets and Christkindlmarkt:

  • Public Hanukkah events and New Year’s celebrations

What to bring to a Lee County holiday event

  • Water, comfortable shoes and a light layer for the evening.

  • Sunscreen for daytime outings and insect repellent where appropriate.

  • A charged phone and a small power bank.

  • Chairs or a blanket for events that permit them.

  • Proof of residency if you are using a resident offer.

  • Any registration confirmation or timed-entry ticket.

  • Hand sanitizer and wipes especially if there is going to be eating involved.

With younger children, I would also bring a change of clothes and choose a clear time to leave.

Ask about wagon and stroller rules before relying on either. Pets, outside food and tripods also have venue-specific rules.

Frequently asked questions

When is the holiday season in Lee County, Florida?

For this guide, it runs from November 2026 through early January 2027. Individual events have shorter windows, and some Christmas attractions finish before December 25.

Where can I see Christmas lights near Fort Myers?

Start with Edison & Ford Holiday Nights, Calusa’s ticketed Holiday Lights event or downtown holiday displays. Check the operating date for each, especially after Christmas.

Are there free Christmas activities in Lee County?

Yes. Published options include Cape Coral Boat-a-Long, Sanibel’s Luminary event, downtown holiday displays and selected Santa opportunities. Food, travel, parking and purchases may cost extra.

What are the 2026 Christmas boat-parade dates?

Cape Coral Boat-a-Long is December 19, and Fort Myers Beach’s chamber lists its parade for December 5. Check exact parade times and routes separately from the overall event date.

Is there a Lee County resident discount for Holiday Nights?

The current listing includes $5 off adult admission on Monday evenings for Lee County residents. Buy the discounted ticket in person for that evening and bring valid proof of residency.

What holiday activities are best for toddlers?

I would start with a short Santa visit or a library program designed for preschoolers. Check age limits, entry procedures and bedtime before choosing a full evening festival.

What can we do during Christmas week?

Holiday Nights has dates before and after Christmas, Santa’s cruise is listed for Christmas Eve, and the dinner train has holiday specials. Confirm closures; an attraction with a December schedule may still close December 24 or 25.

Can we visit Naples events using this guide?

This calendar covers Lee County. Naples and Marco Island are in Collier County, so plan those as separate destinations and check a Collier County guide for their events.

Plan one holiday memory at a time

You can have a lovely holiday season here with a few well-chosen outings: a lights walk, a boat parade, a local shopping day and one experience that feels special to your family.
