Holiday light Christmas tree at Edison and Ford Winter Estates Fort Myers

Spending the holidays in Fort Myers looks a little different than most places — and that’s exactly what makes it special.

Instead of cold weather and crowded malls, the season here is defined by palm trees wrapped in lights, warm sunsets, historic homes dressed for the holidays, and experiences that feel relaxed rather than rushed.

As a Fort Myers local, I can tell you this: the best holiday moments here aren’t always the loudest or most advertised.

They’re the ones that blend seasonal magic with the laid-back Southwest Florida lifestyle. This guide focuses on what locals, such as our family actually do, mixing must-see events with simple traditions that make the holidays feel meaningful — whether you’re visiting, newly relocated, or celebrating close to home.

Ready for our family's favorite things to do in Fort Myers during the holidays? Here we go!

Things to Do in Fort Myers During the Holidays

Holiday Nights at the Edison & Ford Winter Estates

Holiday Nights at the Edison & Ford Winter Estates is one of those experiences that truly feels like the holidays in Fort Myers. The historic homes and gardens are transformed with thousands of twinkling lights, seasonal décor, and music that brings the entire property to life.

Walking through the grounds at night feels magical, especially knowing you’re standing in one of the most iconic places in the city.

What makes this event stand out is the combination of history and holiday charm. You’re not just looking at lights — you’re stepping into Fort Myers’ past while celebrating the season.

Expect crowds, especially on weekends, but also expect it to be worth it. This is one of those experiences people talk about every year.

The kids also love to see their school Christmas Tree as each school in the district has the chance to decorate their own tree with a specific theme to be displayed at the Estate.

Local tip: Weeknight tickets are calmer and more enjoyable if you’re going with kids or prefer a slower pace.

Festive Holiday Storefronts & Decor While Strolling Downtown Fort Myers

One of the simplest — yet most rewarding — holiday traditions in Fort Myers is taking a relaxed walk through Downtown Fort Myers also known as the River District.

During the holidays, local businesses decorate their storefronts, palm trees sparkle with lights, and the streets feel festive without being overwhelming.

This isn’t a one-stop attraction — it’s an experience you create as you go. Expect to see families taking photos, couples window-shopping, and locals enjoying the cooler evenings. The beauty of this activity is how unstructured it is.

You can walk for 20 minutes or two hours, grab dessert, listen to live music drifting from restaurants, or simply enjoy being out during the season.

Local tip: Go just before sunset so you can watch the city transition from daylight into glowing holiday lights.

Fort Myers Festival of Trees at the Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center

The Fort Myers Festival of Trees is a holiday classic, especially for families.

Inside the Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center, you’ll find beautifully decorated trees, themed displays, and festive exhibits that feel cozy and joyful the moment you walk in.

This is a great option if you want something holiday-themed without dealing with outdoor crowds or unpredictable weather.

Kids love seeing the creative decorations, and adults appreciate the relaxed, indoor setting. It’s festive without being chaotic — a perfect balance during a busy season.

Seasonal Holiday Nights at Calusa Nature Center & Planetarium

For something a little different, holiday nights at Calusa Nature Center & Planetarium offer a quieter, more reflective way to celebrate.

Instead of bright lights and loud music, this experience leans into nature, astronomy, and peaceful evening programming with a seasonal touch. This is ideal if you’re looking to slow down and enjoy the holidays in a more meaningful way.

Expect walking paths, planetarium shows, and a calmer environment that feels refreshing amid the usual holiday hustle.

Bell Tower Shops Tree Lighting & Holiday Shopping

Bell Tower Shops becomes especially festive during the holidays, with lights, decorations, and seasonal events that make it more than just a shopping stop.

It’s one of the easiest places in Fort Myers to combine holiday errands with genuine seasonal fun.

What makes Bell Tower appealing is the layout — open-air, walkable, and family-friendly. You can shop, dine, and enjoy the decorations all in one place without feeling overwhelmed or even catch a movie at the Regal Cinema.

Pro Tip: You can score tickets for $7.99 and enjoy 50% off on popcorn every Tuesday as a Regal Member.

Downtown Fort Myers Holiday Music Walk

Holiday music walks bring energy and joy to downtown Fort Myers. Live music fills the streets, creating an upbeat, community-driven atmosphere that feels genuinely local.

This is a great way to experience downtown during the holidays without committing to a formal event.

You can wander, listen, stop when something catches your attention, and move at your own pace.

Celebrate New Year’s Eve at a Downtown Fort Myers NYE Celebration

New Year’s Eve in downtown Fort Myers is lively without being over-the-top.

Expect music, countdowns, fireworks and a festive crowd ready to welcome the new year in a relaxed Southwest Florida way. It’s a great option if you want to celebrate locally, avoid long drives, and still feel part of something special.

Local tip: Arrive early and plan parking ahead — downtown fills up quickly. If you can't arrive early then best to catch an UBER.

Historic Holiday Tour at the Burroughs Home & Gardens

The Burroughs Home & Gardens offers a beautiful, understated holiday experience. The historic home is decorated tastefully for the season, making it feel elegant rather than flashy.

This is perfect for couples or anyone who appreciates history, architecture, and a quieter holiday atmosphere. Expect a slower pace and plenty of photo-worthy moments.

A Scenic Holiday Drive or Walk Along McGregor Boulevard

As a resident of the area, McGregor Boulevard feels especially charming during the holidays.

With historic homes, towering palms, and seasonal décor, it’s the kind of place where a slow drive or evening walk feels like a tradition.

Many locals turn this into a low-effort holiday ritual — windows down, holiday music playing, and no agenda other than enjoying the view.

Holiday Shows & Performances

Fort Myers Beach Holiday Boat Parade

A Fort Myers Beach holiday boat parade is one of the most uniquely Florida ways to celebrate the season. Boats decorated with lights glide through the water, creating a festive scene you won’t find anywhere else.

Bring chairs, arrive early, and expect a fun, community-driven event that feels both celebratory and relaxed.

Watch a Christmas Show at Broadway Palm Dinner Theatre

Broadway Palm is known for its high-quality holiday productions, making this a favorite for both locals and visitors. Pairing dinner with a Christmas show makes it feel like a special occasion without needing to travel far.

This is ideal for date nights, family outings, or anyone who loves live theater during the holidays.

Our family has watched the ELF and a Christmas Carol and it's an activity that our entire family loves. The dinner is served as a buffet style right before the show start and it definitely boosts up our Christmas spirit.

I loved how you took a plain concrete slab and turned it into such a welcoming outdoor retreat—patio construction really is about more than just building a surface, it’s about creating a space where life unfolds beautifully. The mix of cozy seating, greenery, and thoughtful decor shows how great patio construction can set the stage for comfort and connection.

I also got my cranberry hibiscus at Echo in Ft. Myers over 13 years ago and I love that they still pop up in my yard. I've been trying to find the exact macros this plant provides to your diet but all I ever come up with is info on either the tea or the flowers. I use the leaves in my salads daily when its growing fresh in my yard. I do prefer the smaller leaves for salad. Any additional info you may have is appreciated!
