Watching the Sunset on Fort Myers Beach

I have heard many times from people who comes to visit Southwest Florida that we have one of the most beautiful sunsets in the world.

I guess when you are a resident, you take a lot less time to appreciate what is unique and beautiful about the place where you live.

However, more and more I am trying to steer away from the resident mindset and explore more where I live so I decided to become a tourist for the day afternoon and took a ride to the beach to watch the sunset.

I live about 20 minutes away from Fort Myers Beach but I totally underestimated traffic, I think everyone had the same idea as me so I parked at the public free parking lot that is located to the right before you get on the bridge that leads to the beach.

I am actually glad I did it because the view is so much more beautiful when you are walking then when you are driving and that also allow me to take tons of pictures and videos.

Lani Kai Island Resort was the closest establishment within walking distance from where I was where I

could watch the sunset from up above plus I had never been to their roof time so it was perfect!

Considering I was by myself, a table quickly became available and I will say I was pretty lucky to have found front row seat to the sunset but do not count on luck and call ahead to make reservations.

As far as for food, I ordered a fish sandwich but they ended up bringing a chicken sandwich instead which was pretty good as well so I didn't really fuss about the misunderstanding. The fries were the MVP in this whole situation, the were perfect to my taste, crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside.

Now, the sunset was actually pretty amazing. From up above it looks as if the sun was diving into the ocean, it was a true spectacle, worthy of each clap and scream.

As the sun went away, so did most of the crowd and as I spoke with my waiter, who was great by the way, she told me that their establishment doesn't get many locals at the roof top location but the beach itself attracts people from everywhere who comes just to watch the sunset. Many wait all day for that moment and then they leave.

I, on the other hand, decided to stay an extra few minutes and waiter until it got a little dark to make my walk back and I am so glad that I did, I got to see as the sun says its final good byes and the moon start to say its first hello.

Finally, I must say the beach is just as beautiful when it's dark as when it is sunny and I may just enjoy it during the night time far more for the lack of human noise and its silence and most certainly the ability to fully listen to the sound of the waves crushing on the shore.
