Happy National STEM day!!!
If you are a parent you probably have seen the word STEM on toys, educational pamphlets and most definitely at your child school but what does STEM really mean?
STEM is the acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics and it is a curriculum based idea that combines all of these four subjects together in order to teach and embrace skills that students will need in their every day life.
STEM also gives student the ability to learn in ways that most resemble real life by giving them tasks that require hands on experience and critical thinking.
Why is STEM so important?
1 - Encourages language development
2 - Independent & Collaborative Methods
3 - Hands on experience
4 - Encourages critical thinking
5 - Embraces creativity
6 - Builds resilience through the application of knowledge
How can you promote STEM activities at home?
You can promote STEM activities at home by letting the children be part of every day tasks and situations. Let them help you solve small tasks/problems around the house and encourage them to use their critical thinking to solve the issue at hand.
Another way you can promote more STEM activities with your children is by introducing toys that are STEM approved that are fun but will also test their problem solving skills and help with learning new skills.
