If your family is searching for the perfect Florida day trip with crystal‑clear water, gentle tubing, and kid‑friendly outdoor fun, look no further than Kelly Park Rock Springs in Apopka, Florida.
Just 30 minutes from Orlando, this natural lazy river is a local favorite — and a must‑visit for families who want to mix adventure with relaxation.
In this guide, we’ll cover everything you need to know before you go: from hours, fees, and capacity tips to what to pack, where to rent tubes, and how to make the most of your visit with kids.
Why Kelly Park Rock Springs is a Family Favorite
Located in Apopka, Florida, Kelly Park is home to Rock Springs — a natural spring that pumps out an impressive 26,000 gallons of crystal‑clear water every minute. The water stays a refreshing 68°F year‑round, making it perfect for cooling off during Florida’s hot summer months.
What makes it so appealing for families? The lazy river tubing run is slow, safe, and scenic, the picnic areas are spacious, and there are hiking trails, playgrounds, and even a campground for those who want to stay overnight.
It’s like a nature playground that’s free from the hustle and bustle of Orlando’s theme parks.
Getting There: Location & Directions
Address: 400 E Kelly Park Rd, Apopka, FL 32712
Distance from Orlando: About 30 minutes northwest of downtown Orlando
Parking: Included with entry fee, but spots fill up quickly (more on that below)
Kelly Park is easy to reach from most of Central Florida. Families coming from the Orlando or Disney area will appreciate the short drive, making it a perfect half‑day or full‑day trip.

Hours, Fees & Capacity: What You Need to Know
One of the most important things to know before visiting Kelly Park Rock Springs is that capacity fills up fast. So you will want to arrive early, way before the park opens.
We had tried visiting the park a couple of times prior and we were not able to get in due to capacity already being at its limit, which is the reason why we decided to camp overnight so we could guarantee our spot.
Hours of Operation
Summer: 8:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Winter: 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
Swimming areas close 1 hour before park closing
Entry Fees
$3 per vehicle (1–2 people)
$5 per vehicle (3–8 people)
$1 per additional person or walk‑in
Kelly Park is one of the most budget‑friendly family activities in Central Florida — but you’ll need to plan ahead to get in.
Capacity Tips
The park allows 280 vehicles in the morning and another 50 in the afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
On weekends and in summer, families line up before 8:00 a.m. to guarantee entry.
Call 407‑254‑1906 for real‑time capacity updates before heading out.
Pro Tip for Families: Bring breakfast for the kids to enjoy in the car while you wait for the gates to open.

Tubing Rock Springs: The Main Attraction
The highlight of Kelly Park Rock Springs is its natural lazy river tubing experience.
How It Works
The run is about three‑quarters of a mile long with a gentle current that makes it feel like the river is carrying you through a tropical jungle. Families can float side by side, spot fish, and even see turtles swimming in the crystal‑clear water.
Tube Rentals
No tube rentals inside the park
Bring your own but they must be under 5 feet and no glitter or confetti inside. Here are the tubes we got from Amazon.
Rentals available nearby:
Rock Springs Bar & Grill (about $7/day, some offer shuttles)
Safety
Life jackets are incentivized for younger kids
The current is mild, but younger kids should stay close to adults
Water shoes are recommended for rocky areas. I got my water shoes from Amazon and the kids and husband got theirs from Target.
Swimming at Kelly Park
In addition to tubing, there’s a designated swimming area near the spring head. This section is shallower in places, making it great for younger kids.
Things to remember:
Parents should always supervise
Life jackets are encouraged for kids
The water stays cool, so pack towels for after swim time

Hiking & Exploring Beyond the Water
If your family wants a break from tubing, the Kelly Loop Trail is a great way to explore the park on foot.
Length: 2.6 miles
Difficulty: Easy to moderate — good for school‑age kids and teens
Scenery: Shady forests, boardwalks, wildlife sightings (look for deer, birds, and otters)
This is a fun way to mix adventure into your visit and let the kids experience more of Florida’s natural beauty. We saw a wild turkey, a whole lot of squirrels, raccoons and no gators, so that was a plus.
But this is Florida and if there is a body of water, there might also be alligators so always be on the lookout and if you see one make sure you let the park crew members know.

Kelly Park is designed for families who want to spend the whole day outdoors.
Picnic tables & pavilions — first‑come, first‑served
Playgrounds — perfect for little ones who need a break from the water
Volleyball courts — a fun option for older kids and teens
Restrooms & showers — clean and family‑friendly
Pack a cooler with snacks, drinks, and lunch. Just remember: no glass containers, alcohol, or pets are allowed.
Camping at Kelly Park
If a single day isn’t enough, why not spend the night? Kelly Park has 26 campsites for tents and RVs.
Camping here means you can float down the springs early in the morning before the day‑trip crowds arrive or later in the day when most of the guests have left, which in my opinion, is the best time to enjoy the springs.

Thanks for providing this review. I too used the 67 steps to make some realizations, change some behaviors, and change my life some by changing my business practices. Buying it agin for myself and my now adult kids!. Have an awesome day! Cool site… I will come back soon.
I also got my cranberry hibiscus at Echo in Ft. Myers over 13 years ago and I love that they still pop up in my yard. I've been trying to find the exact macros this plant provides to your diet but all I ever come up with is info on either the tea or the flowers. I use the leaves in my salads daily when its growing fresh in my yard. I do prefer the smaller leaves for salad. Any additional info you may have is appreciated!
