I have a 5 year old llittle boy who is autistic. We found out he was autistic since he was a little over 2 years old. He is extremelly hyper active and I can tell that sometimes he wants to stop moving but just can't. People with autism are more prone to only eating crunchy food and starchy food such as french fries, crackers, cereal. So, since he was 2 that has been his diet, so unhealthy but then again I would think to myself that it is better for him to eat that than to eat nothing. Boy, was I wrong!
I came to a point that I was ready to do anything and everything to help my little boy! I started reaching out to people I knew and people I didn't know, and it is amazing how people are willing to help. I spoke with a woman who has a boy with autism and has been treating him with a lot of success. Yes, treating!!! She told me that the cure for autism it's in the diet, the food that they put in their body makes all the difference. She recommended a book called Gut and Psychology Syndrome: Natural Treatment for Autism, Dyspraxia, A.D.D., Dyslexia, A.D.H.D., Depression, Schizophrenia by Natasha Campbell-McBride. I have just started the book but my fiance and I have already made changes to our family's diet.
It's been almost a week since we got rid of bread, cereal, crackers, starchy food, sugary food and pretty much everything that is not glutten free and we see the changes. For the first time ever, he has tried baked chicken and steak ;) We realized that the day he does not have any glutten and sugar, he is calm and more focused.
He hasn't tried fruits and vegetables yet, but we are not giving up.
